Geoff Watkins added (April 2008): "Albert Head who had a tailoring business in Coleford was in charge of the cadets. He kept old army rifles in his shed, used by the home guard in WW2, which we used for practice but never fired. We entered cadet 303 shooting competitions organised by Albert."

Alan ? added (January 2021): "... I had forgotten Berry Hill's cadets, but by the Sixties (1960's) all detachments had to have secure storage for rifles,firing pins and ammunition. I was with Quedgeley cadets and later Gloucester Barracks. We shot .22 and .303 in the Sixties, and competed on ranges at Pilning, Sneedham's Green and at detachment premises (those that had .22 ranges). One of the transitions from childhood to adulthood was learning to smoke. I see Berry Hill's young men wewre wwell entrenched!".
